Our Prayers Go to David Peaston's Family - RIP...

Thursday, 2/2/12:

Peace, Love, & Global Harmony to All of God's Rainbow Tribes...

My prayers go out to his friends & family.  David clearly had a beautiful spirit & voice, I was ever so humbled, inspired, & encouraged when he was a guest on my show.  He endured so much & yet persevered through it all.  Setting an example of everyone, how his faith in God, can carry one through...

RIP David you're singing with the God & the Angels now, transiting to a higher power, for greater works.  We will dearly miss you, your spirit, your voice, thank you for sharing your anointed gifts with the world...

Peace, Love, & Global Harmony to All of God's Rainbow Tribes...

***Enjoy this wonderful, inspiring interview, and continue to listening despite a really brief technical issue at the top of the show. We had a awesome show.***

Friday with former Showtime at the Apollo Amateur Night contestant R&B, Soul, and urban contemporary Indie Artist David Peaston he won several rounds of this competition. David initial come to the scene in the 80’s and 90’s with a voice that is soft and yet powerful which proved itself when he won the Apollo competition.

This former teacher has such a beautiful gift for singing it’s refreshing and touching. His huge, bombastic voice reflects great family roots; his mother Martha Bass was one of the Clara Ward Singers and a great gospel performer, while his sister Fontella Bass has equally distinguished gospel and soul credentials. He started out as a teacher and after being laid off in 1981, Peaston moved from St. Louis to New York.

He began doing session work and auditioned for a role in the gospel musical Don't Get God Started. He also auditioned for a spot in the Apollo's famous Amateur Night competition. He became a featured attraction on the syndicated Showtime at the Apollo in 1988 and eventually landed a deal with Geffen. His 1989 LP Introducing... David Peaston was among that year's hottest and most soulful releases, and he also toured with Gladys Knight in America and Gerald Alston in England. Peaston moved to MCA for the 1991 release Mixed Emotions, but failed to get the vital crossover exposure or breakout urban hit he needed to get the recognition he deserved.

So, sit back relax have a cup of coffee, tea, glass of wine and enjoy some good conversation & music with David Peaston...
